A new blog called
Dead Gingerbread Men is dedicated to the death and dismemberment of our favorite seasonal treats. It's in it's early stages, but I can see many contributions to this fine collection. Look forward to a posting on our very own
ABC Cookies in the near future.
While we're on the subject, here's some recent
ABC sightings.
CNET's kitchen gadgets blog showed them off, as did
Ohdeedoh, a great blog from the Apartment Therapy people.

We're very proud of the work of Fred's in-house design team, but we're always on the lookout for new concepts from around the world that fit with our product sensibilities. This season, we licensed two great ideas from the pages of
Make: Magazine, a print and web collection of new ideas from a number of do-it-yourself creatives.
Windell Oskay's sawed-off USB concept became our
Hacked! and
Michelle Kempner's Police Line scarf idea became the product we've named
FUZZ. We are really excited to bring these two items to market, and hope that this is just the beginning of a long and mutually-beneficial relationship with the Make community.

As designers of product and packaging, we all love to get recognition from our peers. They get you, and what you do (or are trying to do). I was really pleased to see a posting on the dieline back in Dec that had some nice things to say about the packaging that we do at Fred. I'm a firm believer that over-packaging is a way of hiding a crappy product. If the item is good, it should be able to speak for itself, without all the flash and fluff. I have purchased many products with slick packaging, only to be extremely disappointed when I finally got to the real thing. I felt like I was tricked. We hopefully will continue to make products worthy of showing off. And dieline, thanks for noticing.

On Monday Nov 12th, the RI chapter of the AIGA and ISDA have invited Fred and the good folks at Bob's Your Uncle to talk about our products, design approaches and whatever else we feel like ranting about. If you're in the Providence area, we'd love to see you there. Grab the poster and relevant info
HERE.
